The “Scissors” in Scissors and a Whisk

I feel the need to apologize to you guys.
The “scissors” in Scissors and a Whisk has vanished.
Disappeared.
Gone… gone… gone.
Sadly, it’s been gone for a while.

BUT!

It shall hopefully reappear soon.

Y’all also deserve an explanation.
See, Matt and I moved into my dad’s guestroom (not a “house”, but it’s separate from my dad’s house) last summer. There is zero space, and everything is in storage. This weekend, though, we’ll be finding out more about loans to begin the process of buying a houuseeeee!!!! YIPEE!!

So stayed tuned.
The scissors will be back soon.

Best Summer memory as a kid?
I don’t think I can pick one. My favorite memories are going to include my mother. I remember, as a kid, we’d take family trips. We traveled to Florida’s Disney World and Orlando Studios. While in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, I vividly remember the plummeting elevator — Tower of Terror. On another trip, we visited the Coca-Cola Museum in Georgia. Atlanta was fun, and I remember a lot, even though I was like 8, maybe? We were able to taste different Coca-Cola beverages from around the world :)

Favorite summer drink?
Margarita all the way. No if’s, and’s, or but’s about it.

Favorite Summer TV show?
Thats’ a tough one. I like a lot of shows, but during the summer I watch a lot of Netflix. I’ll probably be watching a lot of Desperate Housewives :)

Best outdoor summer activity?
Sittin’ on a patio and relaxing. I don’t know how to swim very well, so… not much fo that goes on. I also burn really easily, so if I go outside, I have to make sure I remember to rub on loads of SPF 70 sunblock. I tend to stay away from laying out. I do, however, love to take little daycations. I hope there’s plenty of that this summer with Matt’s new job and being home more often!

Summer vacation essentials?
Work out gear, sunscreen, bathing suit, razor and shaving cream (or freshly waxed!), snacks, and chapstick!!

What about y’all?

Happies and Crappies [19]

Welcome to our NINETEENTH Happies and Crappies! Last one of the 2012-2013 school year :)

The deets on Happies and Crappies link up:
1. Happies and Crappies link up will be posted EVERY Friday at Midnight CST
2. We’d like for you to put our button on your post for the link up.
3. Please follow your hosts. We won’t make it mandatory, but we appreciate the love

Happies:
- I know I always talk about work, but seriously, their last day is Thursday with a half day. And we’re off Monday. Whoop!
- I made some pretty rockin’ chicken enchiladas with a home made green tomatillo sauce. I forgot to snap a pic, but I’ll definitely be making it again. Yum! Plus it was pretty easy :) Can’t beat that!
- My aunt is going to join Posh!! YAYYYYY!!! My first recruit!
- This week went by surprisingly fast. The days themselves seem to go by slow, but the week itself went by fast. Maybe it also helped I had ESL exam training all day yesterday? Maybe it helped just a tad.
- I did better than expected on the practice ESL exam. I hope I do just as well on the real thing! I already signed up and everything. It can’t be any harder than the Generalist EC-4, 4-8, and PPR… right???
- I had a wooooonderful weekend last weekend with my sista Victoria. Matt and I visited her for her birthday and had a blasty blast! Pictures coming soon. I made crawfish, y’all!

Crappies:
- This is sort of in between happy and crappy. It’s like a hrappy. Matt got a new job, so that means if we want to eat at a decent hour, I have to cook. At least for now since he has an hour drive (one way) to work. I’m not a great cook, and heck the “whisk” in Scissors and a Whisk comes from baking, not cooking!! So… yeah. Any recipes y’all recommend for a beginner??
- Trying hard to make a scrumptious meal with a new recipe I found online. TOTAL LET DOWN. It wasn’t “bad,” but I will not be making it again, that’s for sure. I attempted to be adventurous with butternut squash…. Yeah, no.
- Matt waking up at 6 am. My alarm has been set anywhere from 6:30-6:45 am. Matt somehow doesn’t understand the GINORMOUS difference in those 30-45 minutes. I haaaaate when his alarm goes off and it’s not like I can go back to sleep! To him it’s like a measly five minutes. Do any of you girls agree with ME? Or will you side with the male species??

Updates

School is almost out, but I’ll be teaching summer school. It’s only 14 school days, so it shouldn’t be bad.

All the negativity I was feeling has finally been resolved.

I was bad and didn’t work out much last week, but this week I’m back at it. I just start feeling like yuck when I don’t work out.

*chirp chirp*

I’m not alone, right?

I got an appointment for my car to be repaired next week. Hopefully that doesn’t take long.

That’s about all I got for now. With Matt working I will probably be cooking more so I’ll have recipes. I haven’t crafted much. Things were just so stressful and hectic there for a while. Now I’m thankfully starting to feel the stress ease up just a bit.

I’ll leave you with this gift I gave my “secret” friend I’ve had throughout the school year.

Orange you glad it’s almost summer!?

Y’all take care,

Happies and Crappies [18]

Happies:
- The end is in sight. Summer is right around the corner. I just have today, next week, and then a couple days the following week. Bring it on!!!

- I work with some of the most amazing people, y’all. I’ve had my fair share of downs as a teacher, but it’s soooo incredible knowing that the faculty and admin has my back. They always remind me that I’m appreciated and valued.

- Crazy week of school is OVER. We had something going on nearly every single day this week. We had field trips, field day, Book Character Day (today)…. whew. And next week? Nada.

- Matt’s enjoying his new job, so that’s a super happy!!

- I get to see my seeeester Victoria this weekend! Yay! It’s her birthday weekend :)

- I felt the love last week since it was teacher appreciation week. My days were full of cards, gift cards, drinks, hugs, drawings/colorings, owls, oh my.

- Posh is really a blast. I love selling it. I LOVE hearing how much people love the products after they receive them. Half the time I don’t even have to follow up and ask them, they just tell me! Even some blogger friends love it!

Crappies:
- I rear ended someone :( I cried a little too, not gonna lie. My dad came to my rescue (Matt was at work!!) I was at a four way stop sign, and I thought the lady in front of me was going to go since I saw she let off her brakes, aaaaaand… she didn’t. Someone else went when she should have gone, so she had to brake. I didn’t see it in time, and bumped into her. Luckily, I was already stopped, so there wasn’t much damage. Actually, there was no damage to her Dodge, but my poor little HHR wasn’t so lucky. Now my AC doesn’t work and my hood is smushed up a bit.

- Rude, rude, rude people. Or people that don’t realize they’re being rude. Think before you speak. Think about what kind of person you’re making yourself out to be by the words you choose. Gah!!!! #vaguerant

What’s helped me stay organized {as a teacher}

School is almost out.
The kiddos are tired. Teachers are tired.
The weekends go by so fast, whereas the school weeks go by slow.

We all know that already.
There are some things, however, that have helped my class go a little smoother!!

One) Magnetic board (*ahem* cookie sheet with duct tape taped around it) with students’ numbers. Notice I don’t have a 13. My number 13 student was transferred to another class the first day of school.

The top half is for all the students who are in the class, but when they go somewhere, they have to move their number. I have sections with office, library, nurse, and other. It works awesome, and if I need to know where someone’s at, I just have to glance at the magnetic board right by my door.

Two) Scratch and lined paper. I bought these two magazine racks at Wal-Mart for a couple bucks, and it works well. I’d intended on making a cutesty little label, but hey, we get busy. One side is for scratch paper the kids can draw on the opposite side (lesson on reusing, anyone?), pre-write, whatever, and then lined paper in other rack.

Three) A fantastic way to organize all your construction paper. It took a while to sort the construction paper, but with the help of some of my students, we got it all separated. Students can only take from the top, but sometimes they have trouble reaching the blue.

Four) Next year I may get drawers for this, but for now, the paper trays are doin’ a swell job of helping me stay organized. I have a tray for what needs to be graded, copied, filed, and “to do.” At the moment I’m using not-so-pretty green post-it’s, but again, if I use drawers, I can add cute labels.

Five) This isn’t organizing related. It’s a “Work on Writing” activity I came up with. I created the Post a Comment title, and then on a (laminated) poster board, wrote all the students names. This is their “wall” and students can write to one another during stations. I keep a bunch of post-its in a bucket for easy access. Students have to write to one another in letter format, and I always check all the comments before distributing. I also have a big ol’ section at the bottom because sometimes I’ll get a ridiculous amount of comments :) What can I say? I’m popular.

Six) Drawers I use to keep my worksheets and papers organized throughout the week. I try to re-fill my papers every Friday so incase there’s ever an emergency, the sub can at least be prepared with what worksheets are needed that day.

Seven) I use some yarn and clips to show case student work when there’s just not enough room on the wall. Do you like our Angry Verbs?

Eight) Last, but not least, our Quiet Critters. These are passed out during the times where students are expected to stay quiet. They may pet and hold their critters, but if they talk or critters become a distraction, it’s taken up. These were made with a pom, googly eyes, an orange foam beak, and a heart foam sticker for the feet.

Any teachers out there have tips or tricks?

That time I got my legs waxed

It’s nothing like 40 Year Old Virgin’s chest waxing.

I’ve had my bikini area waxed and that hurt way more than having both my legs waxed.

I’m about 5’11, so I had a lot of leg to cover. My esthetician was super friendly, and I even went to high school with her, so it was nice seeing her after so many years. If you get your legs waxed, you better hope it’s by someone whose company you’ll enjoy because you’ll be with them for a while! Plus they’ll get pretty up close and personal witcha.

My session ended up being about an hour and a half long. Whew!

Also, even though there’s hardly any hair left on your legs, there will be a few still sticking around. She also explained it to me that your hair grows in cycles, and it’s important to go back every week or so to manipulate those cycles. Once those cycles have been taken care of, then you shouldn’t have to go until another 3-4 weeks. Yay!

On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the absolute worse pain, getting my legs waxed was about a 2.5 or 3.

Have any of y’all had something waxed?

What’s Bugging Me

Sometimes you try and be optimistic.

You focus on the positive.

And sometimes it just doesn’t work, or it isn’t good enough.

I’m going to vent and list some (vague) things that have been bugging me lately.

- Mean people who go out of their way to be mean

- Bad dreams

- Being late

- Calluses on my hands. I’m a GIRl and should have soft hands, and I’m getting little calluses.

- Laundry

- Flakey people. Do what you say you’re going to do, please.

- Computer viruses

- Banking at a bank that’s far away.

Alright. That’s all.

What’s bugging y’all?

The Color Run

Hey guys!

I participated in The Color Run Austin last Saturday. I had quite an interesting time.

Austin_Header

First of all, I drove to the wrong place. I’d input the only address I saw on the website, which was for packet pick-up, not race location address.

So I drove to downtown Austin. There was traffic due to construction and streets were blocked off. AND there was a different race going on. I’m already ridiculously horrible with directions (I can’t tell you which way is N, S, E, or W while outside), so I get frustrated. A fear tears may have been said when I text my friends telling them to start without me since I’d be way late.

Twenty minutes late, I’m in the general location of the race, but there’s bumper to bumper traffic, and I’m already late. I decide to be a follower and park on the side of the road along with other Color Runners. I made a few new friends on the trek to the starting line since it was a good thirty minute walk.

I’m happy to say I jogged about 98% of the time. The only time I walked was when I was stuck behind walkers with no room to get around. I am super proud of myself for jogging almost the entire 5k!! Oh, and I won a fanny pack at the start line when they were throwing prizes out! I guess it pays to be almost 6′ tall with long monkey arms ;)

Imagine my pride when crossing the finish line after completing my first 5k EVER when I hear familiar voices yell my last name. Lo and behold, my friends waited for me. It was icing on the cake. We had a nice lunch at Chuy’s, then once I got home and scrubbed my colorful self clean, I took a much needed nap.

Here I am with my friends Amanda (L) and Janina (middle and preggo).

Lessons learned:

- Carpool

- Leave earlier than what you think is early

- Wear sunscreen and chapstick

- Don’t workout the day before

- Take a lot of pictures

Have a great day!!

Perfectly Posh

Have y’all heard the news??

I have just recently become an independent consultant for Perfectly Posh, and I coldn’t be happier. This is just what I wanted.

I’ll save the reasons WHY I chose Posh for another post, but for now, I want to tell you about my top three favorite products.

Before I begin, here’s a little background. Perfectly Posh offers organic and natural spa-grade pampering products. Posh smells and feels incredible. I don’t know how many people have told me (after trying samples) how non-greasy it feels. One lady told me she never uses lotion because she hates feeling sticky but LOVES Posh because it’s the complete opposite. Another woman told me she used a slather (body butter) on her hands before bed and that she slept with both hands on her pillow under her cheek so she’d smell the fragrance.

Here are my top THREE favorites:

1) Slather

My top scents are Lemon Rice, Brazilian Bombshell, and Sassyooma. An indulgent body butter.

2) Stripper

A mud and clay mask that pulls out the free radicals from your body. Can be used all over your body daily.

3) Big Fat Yummy Hand Cremes

I love all four scents. Yum. Leaves your hands feeling silky.

I also wanted to let y’all know they have a special going on for Father’s Day!! It’s a pampering shaving kit. Check it out. It’s a great value, only $25!!!

poshman

If any of these products interest you, please check out my Perfectly Posh website HERE. If you buy 5, you get the 6th FREE. It ships directly to you, too.

If you’re interested in becoming a consultant, let me know!! This stuff sells itself, guys. If you give out samples and let people “see” for themselves how yummy it smells and how wonderful it feels, you can almost guarantee yourself a sale.

Have a great day!
